02 / School and shop
The Best of School. The Best of the Shop.
Broken Arrow Education was built to bridge the gap between traditional barber school and learning inside a working barbershop.
Our apprenticeship is led by a licensed barber instructor with experience teaching hundreds of students at Paul Mitchell The School Provo. We take the structure, fundamentals, and education standards of a professional hair school and combine them with the hands-on experience, real clients, and day-to-day realities of a working barbershop.
You won’t just learn how to pass the requirements to become licensed. You’ll learn how to cut hair, consult with clients, build a clientele, create a great client experience, market yourself, and actually build a career behind the chair.
Real education. Real clients. Real barbershop experience, at a fraction of the cost of traditional school.
03 / Not a school
We don’t take everyone.
Most schools will enroll anyone who can pay. We only take a few people, and we choose them the way we’d choose a barber to hire, because that’s the plan.
A typical school
Around $20,000 in tuition
1,000+ hours, mostly in a classroom
Enrolls anyone who can pay
Graduate, then find a job on your own

05 / Who should apply
Who Should Apply
The Broken Arrow Apprenticeship is for people who are serious about becoming exceptional barbers, not just getting through the required hours.
You should apply if you:
Are serious about building a long-term career in barbering.
Want hands-on experience in a real barbershop environment.
Are coachable and willing to take feedback.
Care about the details and want to continually improve your work.
Show up on time, work hard, and take responsibility.
Want to learn more than just how to cut hair, including consultation, client experience, content, branding, and building a clientele.
You probably shouldn’t apply if you:
Are looking for the easiest or fastest way to get licensed.
Regularly struggle with being on time or following through.
Aren’t comfortable receiving direct feedback on your work.
Expect clients or opportunities to be handed to you.
Aren’t willing to practice outside of the minimum requirements.
See barbering as something you’re only casually interested in trying.
We don’t expect apprentices to already be great barbers. We do expect them to be serious about becoming one.
06 / How it works
Utah’s new barbering permit, plainly
Utah now offers a barbering permit that takes 130 hours of approved training, instead of the 1,000+ hours of a traditional barber school. Here’s what that means.
What it lets you do
Cut, clip and trim with shears and clippers, shampoo and style, and shave facial and neck hair. The classic barbering menu.
How you qualify
130 hours of approved training, plus a passing score on the state barbering exam.
Where you train
Inside Broken Arrow, a working shop in Orem, under a licensed barber instructor.
Where it leads
A licensed start to your career, and a chair on our team if you earn it.
