Once you’ve been shown how, you can do most routine maintenance yourself. It keeps the cost down and means fewer trips to the shop.
Short answer
At-home maintenance means removing the system, cleaning the base and your scalp, and re-attaching it with fresh tape or adhesive. Most people do it every few weeks and it takes about an hour once you’re used to it. Come in for haircuts, color-matching and new systems.
01
What it involves
Removing the system with adhesive remover, cleaning old tape or glue off the base, washing and conditioning the hair, cleaning and shaving the scalp, then re-attaching with fresh tape or adhesive.
02
How long it takes
The first few times take longer. Once you know the routine, most clients finish in about an hour.
03
What you’ll need
Adhesive remover, tape or liquid adhesive, a scalp protector, a gentle shampoo and conditioner, and a mirror setup that lets you see the back. We’ll tell you exactly what to buy for your system.
04
When to come in instead
Come in for the haircut, for anything that looks off at the hairline, when the system needs replacing, or if you’re having trouble getting it to hold. We cut the system into your hair, and that part is best done in the chair.
05
Learning how
We walk you through it at the shop before you try it yourself. Ask at your consultation or your next maintenance visit.
